A committee from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) has recently visited Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and delivered a copy of the message issued by PKK's imprisoned leader Abdullah Öcalan.
The committee, consisting of Diyarbakır deputy Leyla Zana, Istanbul deputy Sırrı Süreyya Önder and others, visited Barzani at the Prime Ministerial Residence in the Iraqi city of Irbil and stated that Öcalan is closely watching the efforts and work of Barzani.
"He commends Barzani for his support to the peace and reconciliation process," Leyla Zana said, adding that he welcomes and respects Barzani's contributions.
The Kurdish PM highlighted once more that they support the reconciliation process in Turkey and will continue to do so. "We are ready to fulfill all responsibilities in this regard" he said.
The HDP committee is expected to meet with Masoud Barzani, the President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, and Jalal Talabani, the former president of Iraq, and proceed to the Qandil Mountains to deliver Öcalan's letter to the outlawed the Kurdish Communities Union (KCK).
PKK's imprisoned leader Abdullah Öcalan made a much-anticipated disarmament call on Nevruz Day. His message, which called for the PKK to hold a congress and lay down their arms, was seen as a key step towards reaching a permanent resolution for Turkey's decades-old Kurdish issue. The government, on the other hand, has consistently underlined that there can be no preconditions to disarmament.
