Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan said on Monday that the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) is not a state.
During a press conference with his Slovenian counterpart Borut Pahor, Erdoğan underlined that a terrorist organization like ISIS cannot be considered as a state. He also dismissed claims that Turkey has cooperated with ISIS: "Allegations that Turkey has cooperated with ISIS are disrespectful and false" the Turkish president said.
Erdoğan also noted that Turkey and Slovenia are improving bilateral ties in areas of the economy, energy and construction
Earlier on Monday, Erdoğan spoke at a news conference in Istanbul before he left for Slovenia, amid speculation that his trip to Tehran could be cancelled as a Saudi-led military campaign continues against Iranian-backed Houthi forces in Yemen. He stated that he still plans to visit Iran next week but was watching developments in Yemen, having last week accused Tehran of trying to dominate the Middle East.
