Three Turkish citizens and a German national working for Turkish engineering and construction firm ENKA Teknik have been reportedly kidnapped in Libyan town of Ubari.
According to Ubari Deputy Mayor Omar Kuki, a group of armed men forcefully kidnapped the ENKA workers.
Kuki told Anadolu Agency that the reason for the abduction was not clear yet, adding that national security forces were conducting rescue operations.
Security authorities called for the immediate release of the engineers, underlining the importance of the ENKA power plant in the region.
Meanwhile, ENKA also published a statement on its website, confirming the kidnapping case of three Turkish citizens and adding that the company was closely following the developments in coordination with Libyan officials.
"Around midday today in Libya three of our citizens, two of them our personnel who were temporarily working in the country, were kidnapped by unidentified people while they were traveling outside the building site," the statement read.
ENKA's ongoing Ubari plant project has been periodically disrupted due to lack of security in the region and tribal clashes.
Libya has been in a state of political chaos after an uprising in 2011 unseated Muammar Gaddafi.
