Betül Demir Karakaya's second solo exhibition, "Give Voice to My Voice," is at Gallery Soyut's B Hall until Feb. 18. Born in 1978 in İzmir, the artist began her art education at the Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Industrial and Applied Arts in 1998. Two years later she transferred to the Department of Ceramics at Hacettepe University's Faculty of Fine Arts. Following her graduation in 2002, Karakaya completed her master's thesis "Ceramic Bells through History" at Anadolu University. In 2014, she received her proficiency in art degree with her dissertation "Porcelain Design and Exemplary Implementation Post-Industrial Revolution." The artist's work is featured among many Turkish and international private and public collections, especially at the MIC Faenza International Ceramic Museum. She attended several national and international events, participated in more than 50 group exhibitions and her work has been exhibited at international biennials and symposiums. According to Karakaya, "Ceramic vases represent how the artist surrenders his or her ego." She claims that they invite the viewer to the game they created and communicate with their audience through this game. "The common heritage of humanity, which is the soul, is activated through these vases and turns into a dialogue between them and their viewers," Kayakaya said, describing her latest exhibition. She says that ceramic vases are a manifestation and way of expression for an artist. Her latest exhibition will run until Feb. 18.
