The government is going to take remedial action on the issue of support premiums, which places a heavy burden on retired people. There will be a limit on the cuts made to pensions of retired individuals who start a new business or continue to work for a wage. Also, it is expected that there will be no cut in the pensions of retired people over the age of 60. The Labor Ministry is calculating the cost of this new project. If a retired person works in someone else's workplace, their support premium cut is paid by the employer. However, if he/she starts a new business in his/her own name, a 15 percent cut is made on their pension. Faruk Çelik, the minister of Work and Social Security, announced that the number of retired people who are paying support premiums to the government is 550,000. Çelik also pointed out that the support premium rate, which was 12 percent in 2008, 13 percent in 2009 and 14 percent in 2010, has been 15 percent since 2011. In many European countries, there is no premium cut for those who start new businesses or become company partners after being retired. Even in some countries like Germany and Finland, the pensions of those who continue to work after being retired keep increasing. The Labor Ministry is carrying out a comprehensive study considering the demands of support premiums and retirement models.
