According to an announcement made by the Ministry of Finance, Minister Mehmet Şimşek has approved the release of a fund valued at nearly TL 1.26 billion to be given to farmers within the scope of agricultural supporting credits.
With this funding release, TL 862 million will be paid for area-based agricultural support, TL 155 million for difference payment supports, TL 55 million for livestock support, TL 150 million for agriculture insurance, TL 10 million for tea-pruning costs and TL 15 million for rural development support. Also, TL 15 million will be used for certified seeds support. Although the Turkish agricultural sector was ranked fourth in Europe and 11th in the world in terms of economic growth in 2002, it came first in Europe and seventh in the world since 2008, thanks to such agricultural supports. Moreover, Turkey takes the lead in terms of agricultural supports among OECD countries.
