The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) has announced that cable and mobile telecommunication service operators are included in the prohibition of unauthorized commercial and promotional messages. Featured on the BTK's website is the assize on the principles and procedures of communication for the purposes of marketing and promotion. According to this, the companies in the electronic communication sector will be able to communicate with their customers in order to inform them of their products and services only if the customers grant them permission to send such messages. These companies are obliged to provide their subscribers and other consumers the opportunity to dismiss any unwanted commercial messages free of charge. Once a person demands not to receive these messages, the company will be obliged to terminate the commercial messages within three working days. In addition to short message service (SMS) notifications, the companies will not be able to use email, automated calls or faxes without the consent of the customer. If a company fails to abide by these regulations set by BTK, it will receive a penalty with respect to its violation of the BTK verdict.
