Canada-based Bombardier, one of the largest railway companies in the world, is looking into tenders to produce high-speed trains, subway cars and tramways in Turkey. Bombardier CEO Laurent Troger said the company wanted to produce high-speed trains with a strong partner in Turkey, which is one of the most important railway markets in the world.
Since 1986, Bombardier produced 111 light rail vehicles, 88 tramways and 248 subway cars for Turkey. Stressing that Bombardier plays a major role in transportation in the cities of Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Eskişehir, Adana and Bursa, Troger said Turkey, which connects the Middle East to Europe, is one of the most important railway markets in the world. Troger added that the rapid course of the modernization process in Turkey along with the government's promise to invest $45 billion in transportation by 2023 makes Turkey an even more important railway market. Turkey aims to construct 6,792 kilometers of high-speed railway lines and 4,707 kilometers of new conventional rail line by 2023. Stressing that Bombardier is a railway company that has the largest product portfolio in the world, Troger said they absolutely want to become a key player in the Turkish railway sector and leave their mark on high-speed trains in the country. "We want to enhance our cooperation with domestic industry and turn the Turkish market into a technology-oriented and innovative one," he said.
