New record for travelers crossing at Kapıkule Border Gate

A total of 36,965 passengers crossed the border at the Kapıkule Border Gate from Bulgaria to Turkey in 24 hours on the last day of Ramadan Bayram, breaking the all-time record. According to information received, those who crossed the border in Kapıkule from Bulgaria to Turkey caused heavy traffic on the last day of the holiday.
As a result of reinforced and intense operations of the teams from the Edirne Police Department and Thrace Regional Directorate of Customs and Trade, passenger crossings were completed without any problems. The number of passengers that crossed the border at Kapıkule Border Gate in 24 hours the previous year was as 36,167 at the highest.
Among the reasons behind the heavy passenger traffic were those coming back from holidays outside the country and guest workers who wanted to spend their holiday in their home country.
