Opposition renews discourse over presidential system

by Saadet Oruç

Erdoğan, despite the oppositions' harsh objections against the Turkish-model presidential system, insists on the importance of Turkish people's collaborative consultation work with all different segments of the society to form a better future

No matter what the reality is, there is a tendency among Turkey's free and democratic opposition media to manipulate the facts in accordance with their daily sportive activity of anti-President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pieces.

Putting aside that such attempts harm not only reality, but also the image of the country abroad, they see pathologic legitimacy in their disinformation campaigns.

Of course, they can sell these fake stories to various clients outside.

The recent fabricated news was that Erdoğan made a reference to Hitler-era Germany as a model for a presidential system.

What was the reality? Asked to elaborate on his recent remarks to define the framework of the presidential system, Erdoğan said that any system could end with a dictatorship if it was abused.

In an aim to correct the false information spread by the abovementioned media outlets, the presidency made a statement clarifying what Erdoğan had said:

"If the system is abused, it may lead to bad management resulting in disasters as in Hitler's Germany. The important thing is to pursue fair management that serves the nation."

Erdoğan is not in a position to impose a specific system; to the contrary, he plans to consult with a broad range of members of society for the best type of Turkish model presidential system.

A system that will "reconstruct" relations between the state and the people of Turkey in which the people will be stronger and will participate in the decision-making process. A system in which classical democratic problems of the country, including the Kurdish issue as well as other identity-related problems, will be able to be solved in the framework of a unitary state.

A Turkish-model presidential system will find its final shape as a result of consultation work to be done with the different segments of Turkish society.Broad participation will try to be achieved with the views of individuals and institutions working on this issue not only in the Turkish society but around the world.

Turkish people will themselves find the best system for their future.

As during the referendum held in 2010, Turkish people voted for the need to change the constitution. This needs to be updated due to the new urgencies. Turkish voters voted for constitutional change during the elections held on Nov. 1, as well.

This work needs to be completed in consultation with the different segments of society at every phase.

Is there any clue in this picture to remind anyone of Hitler, the fascist dictator of the past century apart from the media's manipulation to distort reality?

This style of journalism is the enemy of reality and history, as the truth is tortured deliberately.

Fortunately, facts have a habit of coming to the surface.
