Massoud Barzani, the head of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq, said on Tuesday that the KRG is welcoming any attacks against Daesh, but Russian attacks are hurting the region by forcing it to close its airports, Kurdish media reported.
"This issue needs to be solved and we ask Russia not to make problems for the Kurdistan region's airline," Barzani announced.
He said the KRG is in contact with Baghdad about resolving the problem of suspended flights at international airports in Irbil and Sulaimani due to the Russian missile attacks against Daesh in Syria.
Baghdad asked late Sunday that the airports in Irbil and Sulaimani halt all flights for 48 hours in order to protect the safety of travelers.
Barzani is expected to visit Turkey on Wednesday. During his meeting with Turkish officials, issues such as the fight against Daesh terrorists and the training given by the Turkish military to peshmerga will be discussed.
