According to data collected from the Directorate General for Highways, 1.59 billion vehicles drove across bridges and 1.93 billion vehicles traveled across highways between 2004 and 2014. The total income earned in this period was $ 4.9 billion, or $15 per second.
While 3.53 billion vehicles used bridges and highways in the last 10 years, the highest rate of vehicle use occurred in 2014. Nearly 400 million vehicles used bridges and highways and around $470 million was earned from tolls.
$5 was paid per second from the Boğaziçi and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridges where 400,000 vehicles on average passed daily. In the same period, total incomes from the bridges and highways were more than $15 per second.
A tender for the privatization of the bridges and highways was held on Dec. 17, 2012. Three consortiums attended the tender and the highest offer valued at $5.72 billion was made by the consortium of Koç Holding, UEM Group Berhad and Gözde Venture Capital, but the tender was later cancelled.
