Turkey's unemployment rate hit a six-month high in September when it reached 10.3 percent, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) on Tuesday.
The unemployment rate rose from 10.1 percent in August, while the number of unemployed people aged over 15 increased from 3.05 million to 3.1 million. The number of unemployed people also increased by 39,000 compared to same month previous year, although the rate dropped by 0.2 percent in the same period.
In the same period, non-agricultural unemployment rate was announced as 12.4 percent with 0.3 percentage point decrease, youth unemployment rate including 15-24 age group was announced as 18.5 percent with 0.6 percentage point decrease and unemployment rate for 15-64 age group was announced as 10.5 percent with 0.2 percentage point decrease.
The unemployment rate increased despite the number of employed people increasing by 987,000 compared to September 2014, reaching 27.156 million. The employment rate was announced as 46.8 percent with a 1 percent increase.
Agricultural employment increased by 200,000 new employment opportunities and non-agricultural employment increased by 786,000.
Of those who were employed in this period, 21.5 percent were employed in agriculture, 19.6 percent were employed in industry, 7.5 percent were employed in construction and 51.4 were employed in services. Employment in services increased by 0.7 percentage point while that of industry decreased by 0.7 percentage point.
The country's labor force was announced as 30.25 million with an increase of 1.026 million compared to the same month last year. Labor force participation rate (LFPR) was announced as 52.1 percent with a 1 percent increase. LFPR was 72.5 percent for males with 0.8 percentage increase and 32.3 percent for females with a 1.2 percent increase.
The rate of unregistered employment decreased 0.9 percentage point to 34.8 percent.
Seasonally adjusted employment was announced as 46.3 percent with an increase by 171,000 and reaching 26.851 million thousand people compared to the previous period. Number of seasonally adjusted unemployed people was announced as 3.112 million while the unemployment rate was announced as 10.4 percent without any change. Seasonally adjusted LFPR was 51.6 percent.
