Turkey's unemployment rate rose by 0.9 percentage point year-on-year and reached 10.7 percent in July, Turkish Statistical Institute (Turkstat) announced on Monday.
The number of unemployed people increased by 354,000 in July compared to the previous year and reached 3.324 million. Non-agricultural unemployment rate was 13 percent in the same period with 1 percentage point increase. While youth unemployment rate including persons aged 15-24 was 19.8 percent with 1.5 percentage point increase, the unemployment rate for persons aged 15-64 occurred as 11 percent with 1 percentage point increase.
The number of employed persons were 27.636 million in July 2016 with 294,000 increase compared with the same period of the previous year. The employment rate was 47 percent with a 0.2 percentage point decrease.
The number of agricultural employment decreased by 291,000 while the number of non-agricultural employment increased by 586,000 in this period.
Services was the leading sector providing 52.9 percent of employment with an increase of 1.8 percent. Employment in agriculture decreased by 1.3 percentage point to 20.7 percent, whereas the share of industry also decreased by 0.5 percentage point to 19 percent. 7.4 percent of the workforce was employed in construction.
The labor force grew by 650,000 in the same period and reached 30.961 million, with the labor force participation rate (LFPR) standing at 52.7 percent with 0.3 percentage point increase. LFPR for males was 72.8 percent without any change while the rate for females was 33 percent with 0.6 percentage point increase compared with the same period of the previous year.
The share of the employed working without any social security relating to the main job was 34.3 percent with 0.7 percentage point decrease in the period of July 2016.
Seasonally adjusted employed persons increased by 25,000 and reached 27.078 million. Seasonally adjusted employment rate was 46.1 percent without any change.
The number of seasonally adjusted unemployed persons was as 3.401 million with a 73,000 increase. The unemployment rate was 11.2 percent with 0.2 percentage point increase.
Seasonally adjusted LFPR was 51.9 percent with 0.1 percentage point increase.
