The 2018 Program, which elaborates on the government's investment and expenditure plans both in the public and private sectors, has been recently published in the Official Gazette. The program provides that the total amount of public and private investments next year shall reach TL 1 trillion ($264.7 billion) and TL 141 billion of this amount will be derived from public investments while the private sector is forecast to make a TL 882 billion investment. The amount forecast in private sector investments is expected to see a 15 percent rise next year.
According to the 2018 Program, by the end of 2017 the amount of investments will reach TL 928.6 billion in total, including TL 127.5 billion in public and TL 801.1 billion in private sector.
Citing the 5.1 percent growth rate in the first half of this year, the target for 2018 gross domestic product (GDP) growth is set at 5.5 percent, which is important to achieve the investment targets in order to reach the 2018 growth target.
In the first half of the year, the investment spending increased by 6.5 percent and their share in the growth was recorded at 1.9 percent while the net contribution of exports was 2 percent.
The largest investment this year will be made in the transport sector with TL 315.6 billion, followed by housing with TL 264.9 billion and manufacturing with TL 168.7 billion.
The sectoral distribution of private sector investments for 2017 foresees that transportation investments will reach TL 271.3 billion, while housing investments will amount to TL 263.4 and the manufacturing industry will receive TL 169.5 in investments.
According to the investment program, public investments will increase by 11 percent and private sector investments by 15 percent next year. Transport investments will increase by 13 percent to TL 356.5 billion, while housing investments will increase by 17 percent to TL 310.4 billion and manufacturing industry investments will rise to TL 195.8 billion with an increase of 15 percent.
