According to Iran's official news agency IRNA, Iran National Gas Company for International Affairs Chairman Azizullah Ramazani said that a big part of the Baghdad pipeline project was completed and they would start export gas to Iraq in May. Saying that 4 million cubic meters gas will be pumped in the first stage, Ramazani stated that this amount will increase to 25 million cubic meters within two years.
Ramazani announced that the construction of the Basra pipeline project also started in accordance with the agreement between Iran and Iraq. He added that once Baghdad becomes operational in May and the Basra pipeline is completed, the mount of the exported gas to Iraq will reach 70 million cubic meters daily. Iraq started to import 7 million cubic meters natural gas daily from Iran last year in accordance with the energy agreement signed by Tehran and Baghdad governments in October 2013.
Also, Iranian oil minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh announced on Jan. 10 that Iran signed an agreement with Iraq to supply 25 million cubic meters natural gas daily to the country.
