The Steel Pipeline Purchase Bid for the Şırnak Natural Gas Pipeline, which will connect Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) gas to Turkey's national network, will be tendered on Feb. 18.
According to the announcement from Turkey's national oil company, BOTAŞ, the bidders should submit their bids together with a bid bond totaling 3 percent of the offered price, and the validity period of the bids will be 120 calendar days as of the date of the tender.
Consortiums will not be able to participate in the tender for the purchasing of the 185,663-meter-long steel pipeline. It is estimated that the 185-kilometer-long Şırnak Natural Gas Pipeline will be completed within 720 calendar days.
KRG gas is a good option for Turkey to diversify its natural gas imports to feed its growing domestic market, and, may even be exported to Europe in the coming years. It seems like a remote possibility, however, for Turkey to replace Russian gas from the Western line or the planned Turkish Stream pipeline project.
