Speaking at a reception for Europe Day in Ankara on Tuesday, the head of the EU delegation to Turkey, Hansjörg Haber, said that visa liberalization is going to take place soon.
Explaining that deaths in the Aegean Sea from illegal migration have largely stopped now thanks to Turkey and the EU's efforts, Haber said: "There are more things needed to be done, but many things have been accomplished, as well. The two sides have worked with each other in the solution of these crises and a common point has been found." Speaking to media members on Friday, Haber stressed that "continuity is a must in technically finalizing the refugee agreement, which also includes visa liberalization, and fulfilling the necessary criteria."
The government during the last few months has worked long hours to fulfill the 72 criteria that were required by the EU, which Haber praised. "Turkey must be proud of what it could accomplish under this time pressure."
