Sweden's foreign minister Margot Wallstrom has said that the country continues to support Turkey's EU membership bid.
In an interview published on Saturday in Sweden newspaper Expressen, Wallstrom said: "We continue to support Turkey's EU membership."
Margot said that Sweden is on the side of maintaining dialogue with Turkey.
Her statement came after Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern's recent remarks that the country wanted to stop Turkey's EU membership process due to [Turkey's] 'democratic and economic deficits'.
Germany's foreign minister resisted Austria's push to halt Turkey's accession talks to the EU, saying the bloc needed to think more broadly about how to frame its relationship with Ankara in troubled times.
European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker also rejected Austria's call to end membership talks, warning that it would be a serious foreign policy mistake.
