Cem Canbay, one of the most prolific photography artists, is hosting his exhibition "The Living Incas: The Inti Raymi Festival" at the Olympus Gallery til Feb. 17. The exhibition features 26 photographs documenting the largest open-air festival in South America, Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun), which takes place annually on June 24 in Cuzco, Peru, as well as the lives of Incas who live in Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. In order to put the exhibition together, the artist took photos in three different countries mostly focusing on Cusco, the former Incan capital and Holly Valley. "I saw that there are millions of people descended from the Inca. They practice a kind of Christianity that is mixed with their old traditions and continue to use the Quechua language," Canbay said. The exhibition displays the traditional dress that the Incan people wear, their modest lifestyles, their expertise in craftsmanship and the old and new agricultural techniques that they use.
