"Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht" (Be still, stop chattering), widely known as "The Coffee Cantata," composed by German composer Johann Sebastian Bach with the libretto written by poet Friedrich Henrici, will be staged by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet (İDOB) at the Kadıköy Municipality Süreyya Opera Stage. Father Schlendrian tries to make his coffee-addicted daughter stop drinking coffee once and for all. He complains about his daughter as she does not listen to his advice and decides to warn his daughter one more time.
However, his daughter, Lieschen, asks her father to calm down and begins to play her aria, singing a song about how much she loves coffee. Meanwhile, Schlendrian tries to find his daughters weak spot as she does not listen to anything he says. If he succeeds in finding this weak spot, he will use it against his daughter and make her stop drinking coffee for good. Starring Sirel Yakupoğlu, Sevim Zerenaoğlu, Kevork Tavityan and Ahmet Baykara, "Coffee Cantata" will be staged on Feb. 23, 24, 25 and March 21, 22 and 23.
