With league leaders Beşiktaş picking up a vital 4-3 win against Trabzonspor on Saturday, second placed Medipol Başakşehir now must overcome Galatasaray today in order to stay on track for the Super League title.

Medipol Başakşehir will host powerful crosstown rivals Galatasaray, who are sitting third in the table with 49 points. Just four points adrift, Başakşehir will look to stay on trail of Beşiktaş who have 61 points and at the same time increase the point gap with Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe, both possible challengers for the Champions League play-off spot.

Başakşehir had overcome the Lions in their two previous meetings, in the league and the Turkish Cup, this season.

Galatasaray, on the other hand, will be desperate for a win that would place them within a point's reach of the Champions League playoff spot.

Meanwhile, Turkish football fans enjoyed one of the best matches so far this season as Trabzonspor and Beşiktaş faced off on Saturday.

With many expecting an upset from the resurgent Trabzonspor, who were yet to lose a match in 2017, thought Beşiktaş might possibly drop points. And the Black Sea team were firmly on course, as they gave Beşiktaş a hard time throughout the match and even went one up in the second half.

However, the Eagles kept their cool as they equaled and managed to slot in a last minute goal, to win possibly the most neck and neck matchup this season.

With an end to their 10-match unbeaten run, Trabzonspor missed an important opportunity to catch up with rivals Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe, both of who are occupying the Europa League slots at the moment.

Trabzonspor will now look to close the point gap with their rivals in the last seven matches, four of which will be played on their home turf.
