Turkish international Cengiz Ünder's maiden goal secures Roma's win over Verona

Roma battled with 10 men to win 1-0 at troubled Verona Sunday, staying fifth in Italy's Serie A and closing to within one point of the Champions League zone.

Turkish winger Cengiz Ünder scored his first goal for the Romans in the first minute, surging from the right to blast into the corner of the net.

The 20-year-old joined the Giallorossi from Turkish Super League runners-up Medipol Başakşehir in July. He cost Roma 13 million euros ($16.21 million) which then made him the most expensive Turkish player to be transferred to a European team.

Early in the second half, Verona had coach Fabio Pecchia dismissed for protesting and Roma's Lorenzo Pellegrini was red-carded after fouling an opponent from behind in the 51st.

Roma trail fourth-placed Inter Milan, who drew 1-1 at home against struggling Crotone Saturday. Verona are second-last, four points from the safety of fourth-last place filled by Crotone.
