Ottoman sultan in the spotlight with symposium, exhibition

Abdülhamid II, the sultan credited with a brief revival of Ottoman Empire as it was on the brink of collapse, is being remembered with a symposium and an exhibition that started in Istanbul yesterday. The event at Dolmabahçe Palace will run until Sept. 25. The event focusing on the reign of the sultan who passed away in 1918, nine years after he was dethroned, is sponsored by the Turkish Parliament.
