Pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) branch head for the Pervari district of the province of Siirt and three other suspects have been put behind bars for "aiding and abating a [PKK] terrorist organization" on Wednesday. The court ruled to release five other suspects.
Furthermore, a police officer was killed in an attack in the eastern province of Van on Wednesday, Van Governor Ibrahim Taşyapan said. According to Taşyapan, PKK members attacked a police squad with long-barreled weapons in the central İpekyolu district, leaving a civilian injured and an officer and a terrorist dead. Security forces also captured an injured terrorist in the incident. An operation was also launched in the area following the attack.
Separately, the military announced on Wednesday that it killed 10 terrorists in the southeastern province of Hakkari. In a statement posted on the General Staff's website Wednesday, the military said that three PKK terrorists were killed in an operation in Yüksekova, while seven other PKK terrorists were killed in airstrikes carried out in the same area.
Three sergeants were also slightly wounded in the incident, it said, adding that an anti-aircraft gun, two machine guns and a Kalashnikov rifle were also seized in the operation.Meanwhile, in the eastern province of Muş, two gendarme sergeants were slightly injured in an attack. Also, 17 suspects were detained in the province for trying to enter an area where a security operation was being carried out, the military said.
In the southeastern province of Şırnak, a terrorist's dead body was found on Mount Judi where a security operation continues. Fifteen suspects were also detained when they tried to enter an operation zone, the statement said.
In Şırnak's Silopi district, six terrorists surrendered to security forces, the statement added.
The PKK - designated a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU - renewed its armed campaign against the Turkish state in late July.
Since then, Turkey has been conducting operations against the PKK, after a two-and-a-half year lull in the fighting ended. Additionally, more than 150 members of security forces have been killed while, according to the government, more than 2,000 PKK terrorists have been killed.
