A military hospital in the Yenişehir district of southeastern Diyarbakır province was attacked by PKK terrorists with machine guns on late Thursday, damaging to several parts of the building, including the meeting and dining halls.
The PKK continues to threaten the working conditions and security of medical staff in southeastern provinces, as numerous attacks have been reported lately.
The Sur district of Diyarbakır, which was under a nine-day curfew, was the scene to clashes between terrorists and security officers. In the clashes, 31 terrorists and two police officers were killed and another 13 officers were wounded.
Following the removal of the curfew, dozens of houses and businesses were damaged and hundreds of people left their homes in the district. The 16th century Fatihpaşa Mosque, which was targeted by the PKK during the clashes, was severely damaged and some of its walls collapsed. On the night of the same day, another curfew was imposed in the district.
In the Nusaybin district of the southeastern province of Mardin, after the four-day curfew imposed on four neighborhoods announced Saturday last week, terrorist damage to houses, business places, water and power lines and the dome of a mosque was reported. Seven terrorists were killed by security forces in operations.
On Nov. 9, terrorists fired a mortar at a hospital in the southeastern province of Siirt's town of Cizre, allegedly while targeting a police vehicle near the building. This followed an attack on Oct. 22 when PKK militants used a car bomb parked in an area housing a hospital in Şemdinli, a district of the southeastern province of Hakkari.
In addition to this, terrorists blocking a road between the Kulp and Lice districts in Diyarbakır killed a doctor named Abdullah Biroğul on Sept. 1 by opening fire on his vehicle.
Together with hospitals and medical staff, the PKK also targets places such as schools, Quran courses and has killed children.
Two schools in the Sur district of Diyarbakır were burned by hand-made explosives by the PKK Tuesday.
On Sept. 14 in Cizre, a Quran course building was also targeted with rifles by terrorists, causing the building to be evacuated.
Previously on Oct. 8, Hasan Yılmaz, 9, was killed and three children whose ages ranged from six to 10, were injured in Silvan, Diyarbakır, as a mortar left by PKK terrorists exploded.
