Manufactured by the Unmanned Aerial Systems Undergraduate Students Team, which is composed of engineering students from the Anadolu University (AÜ), unmanned aerial vehicles named "Anadolu-Boran" and "Devrim" will represent Turkey at the upcoming aerial systems competition taking place in Maryland, U.S. in June. Project consultant, Assistant Professor Tansu Filik of AÜ, told That they will attend the annual competition of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International with a team of 10 students. The association, which has over 2,200 corporate members as well as 6,000 individual members from 55 different countries, runs the competition every year for undergraduate students.
Stating that the competition will take place on June 15 in Maryland with the participation of 60 teams from 30 countries, Filik noted that they aim to be successful at the competition which they will attend for the second time.
Filik also provided insight about their objectives regarding the competition, and said, "We are aiming high this year. We expect to win first place in our category and become one of the 10 most successful projects in the general category. We will compete with two unmanned aerial vehicles, one of which is a gyroplane and the other a fixed winged. We have improved our system designs compared to last year."
The organization, which will host numerous universities, companies and military units, will hold the competition for the 12th time. Every year, the association provides a competitive environment in which engineering designs compete.
Filik said that the competition defines a different mission description for the unmanned aerial vehicles every year, and continued, "This year's mission requires our designs to recognize images without any human interference while flying at an altitude of 50 meters. Every year, the scenario changes and develops as the problems that we are asked to solve become more difficult." He said that the competition requires both hard work and new designs regarding engineering. "The competition attracts many people and designs. We had to work hard to prepare the necessary documentation and systems," the project consultant concluded.
