A new species of invertebrate was recently discovered in the Tuzla Stream of Çanakkale's Ayvacık district. Under the supervision of Assistant Professor Deniz Anıl Odabaşı of the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Faculty of Marine Sciences and Technology, the new freshwater invertebrate was described in marine science literature for the first time. The animal has been included in the genus Valvata and called Valvata kebapcii. Odabaşı previously discovered two other new marine species in Çanakkale and named the third one after Assistant Professor Ümit Kebapçı, who made important contributions in the field of zoology in Turkey. The ongoing marine studies at the university highlight the rich biological diversity in the region, while also highlighting ecological and environmental problems.
