To mark the August 30 Victory Day, 460 people broke a Guinness record by making a floating peace symbol on the sea in western Bursa province's Mudanya district, the İhlas Agency News reported. With the participation of observers and a judge, the record attempt took place in the district's Kumyaka beach. Various volunteers coming from different districts of Bursa attended the Guinness trial. Numerous buoys were gathered to make the peace symbol. Volunteers were asked to hold the buoys for 5 minutes in the sea.
In order to break a Guinness record, the symbol's shape should not be distorted during the 5-minute period. Mudanya Mayor Hayri Türkyılmaz, said a message for peace was voiced from Mudanya yesterday. Many locals were expected to watch the record attempt. Türkyılmaz further said the district promotes peace, freedom, democracy, humanity and brotherhood. A concert program took place prior to the show of volunteer swimmers. Last year, a similar attempt took place in Muğla's Fethiye district and 261 swimmers broke a Guinness record.
