Spain, Italy first in average life expectancy in EU

Mediterranean countries have the highest life expectancies among European countries, according to Eurostat statistics. Spain has the longest average life expectancy among these countries with 83.2 years. Life expectancy is 86.2 years for women in the country; men are expected to live 80.6 years.
Italy follows Spain and comes in second in the index with 82.9 years. Other Mediterranean countries, Greek Cyprus and France, come after the first two countries with 82.5 and 82.4 average life expectancies.
Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia ranked near the bottom of the index with respectively 74.1, 74.3 and 77.5 years. Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania are other countries following Baltic countries in terms of low life expectancy.
Turkey, which has a life expectancy of up to 78, ranked below of EU average, which figured as 80.6 years.
