Ferries are the most pleasant way to travel around Istanbul, and will now be even more entertaining - even while waiting for them to depart. Üsküdar Municipality has kicked off "Ritim Günleri" (Rhythm Day), a day during which music groups give a live performance. This will happen every Tuesday and Thursday at the district's ferry terminal.
The groups welcome passengers at the terminal and send them off with music when they are departing the deck. The project has already been received with great enthusiasm from local people recording the musicians. Each week a different group comes and gives a live concert, performing Turkish folk music, classical music or jazz.
Serhat Talay, one of the performers, said they are satisfied with the passengers' feedback. Featuring Cem Çatık on guitar, Umut Çılgın on drum, Cengiz Zeydan on bass, Talay on saxophone and Bestem Yuvarlak as a vocalist, the group plays at metro stations as well as other events.
Ahmet Berk Boz, a student from Istanbul University, said he regularly takes the ferry, while going to school and that it is great to listen to different music groups in the morning and evening.
