Children in Istanbul is getting ready to recycle pre-loved goods by creating new designs out of unwanted material at "The Village of the Productive Children Project" created by Tuzla Municipality's social responsibility initiation Gönül Elleri Çarşısı.
To promote the project, the municipality organized a charity event. The recycled designs created by children were presented to the participants. Speaking at the event, Şadi Yazıcı, Mayor of Tuzla, stated that the secondhand pieces and handicrafts that people donated to the municipality are being turned into new pieces with the help of children as well as women who wants to contribute to the family budget. Implying that these works are of high importance for the municipality, Yazıcı said, "I congratulate such a project, which consists of several social responsibility issues like socialization of women and family, recycling, added-value, employment, making use of the well, building self-value, getting hand skills. ‘The Village of the Productive Children Project' will be a third address for children, attracting them away from the digital environment outside school. I greet the creators of the project which aims providing children with hand skills and keep them away from the risks of unfavorable environments."
The curator of the Arts commission of Gönül Elleri Çarşısı, volunteer Fatma Yücel also stated that they are planning to offer classes given by master students to needy women within the district and so help them to generate an income. Yücel said, "The most important function of the charity fair is that the products donated for charity are turned into functional objects via the recycling Project. By buying products from the charity fair you both support our women and the Project village which will be constructed for children."
It is stated that the fair income will be used for the The Village of the Productive Children Project.
