Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi who headed the bloody military coup on July 2013 and overthrew Egypt's first democratically elected President Mohammad Morsi, arrived in Riyadh on Sunday, his first official visit to the kingdom since King Salman bin Abdulaziz ascended the throne last month. King Salman was on hand as the Egyptian leader touched down at King Khalid International Airport. The two leaders then headed to the royal palace where they held a closed-door session before they were joined by senior officials from both sides, Egyptian presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef said in a statement. Talks are expected to touch on means of boosting political and economic ties as well as the developments in the region with a focus on the situation in Yemen.Saudi Arabia has played a key role during the bloody military coup in terms of supporting Sissi economically. The oil-rich country gave more than $10 billion in cash and promised to continue its support both economically and politically as Sissi came under fire for ousting the democratically elected president. Saudi Arabia, in the international arena, has been promoting the coup and claiming that the Muslim Brotherhood was a terrorist organization. Saudi Arabia that spreads Salafi-Wahhabi Islam understanding across the world through establishing mosques and Islamic centers has listed the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist and banned its activities in Saudi Arabia.
