U.S. Senator Rand Paul, a likely 2016 GOP presidential candidate, said he would promise Kurds a country in exchange for their cooperation in fighting against the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS).
In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, Paul said that the Kurds deserve more support and recognition from the U.S and its allies.
"I think they would fight like hell if we promised them a country. I would even go one step further: I would draw new lines for Kurdistan and I would promise them a country," Paul said.
Speaking of his planned Kurdish state, Paul said, "It's a little easier to say than it is to actually make it happen, because in order to actually draw a new country you'd have to have the complicity of Turkey and probably Iraq a little bit as well. There really is no Syria to be complicit with, but there is just a little piece of Syria, which is Kobani."
Paul claimed that the weapons coming from the U.S. and other European countries to Kurdish fighters were being siphoned off after they arrived to Baghdad, without giving any evidence regarding the issue.
"Part of the problem is the Kurds aren't getting enough arms. I think that any arms coming from us or coming from any European countries ought to go directly to the Kurds. They seem to be the most effective and determined fighters," he said.
