An Egyptian court on Saturday acquitted eight Turkish nationals, who were arrested in October 2014 for possession of "unreported firework and rifle" on their boat while travelling through Egyptian waters.
In October 2014, a Port Said criminal court arrested the eight Turkish men for not reporting fireworks on their boat while they were passing through Egyptian waters on their way to Australia from Turkey.
The arrested men were acquitted in February 2015 however a month before the trial, the prosecutors had opened another case requesting 15-year prison sentence for the Turkish men for the possession of a rifle on their boat.
On Saturday, the court ruled for the release of eight men thanks to the efforts of Turkish officials in Egypt, Turkey's acting ambassador to Cairo Ali Rıza Güney said.
