The 23rd Istanbul Jazz Festival kicked off Monday to offer a month of colorful performances by world-renowned jazz musicians in various venues until July 25. The Zorlu Performing Arts Center and İKSV's Salon will host special programs
Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), the 23rd edition of the Istanbul Jazz Festival started on Monday. The festival will be hosting leading names from the world of jazz and stars of contemporary music in different venues around Istanbul. It will welcome over 200 Turkish and international musicians and give music lovers in Istanbul the chance to see jazz legends at more than 50 concerts that will be performed in 26 venues. The 23rd Istanbul Jazz Festival has two special programs for the venues of Zorlu Performing Arts Center and İKSV Salon.
ZORLU PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
Cyrus Chestnut / Buster Williams / Lenny White
Cyrus Chestnut who touches the soul of piano, Buster Williams who collaborated with legendary musicians such as Miles Davis and Herbie Mann and created his own technique on drums and Lenny White who recorded the album "Bitches Brew" with Miles Davis and completed his own education on fusion drums will share the same stage to show their virtuoso talents to Istanbulites.

Branford Marsalis Quartet and Kurt Elling
Saxophone virtuoso Branford Marsalis and his quartet will accompany American jazz vocalist, composer and Grammy nominee Kurt Elling.

Antonio Sanchez and Migration
Mexican jazz drummer Antonio Sanchez who astonished music lovers with the original soundtrack of Academy Award winner "Birdman" will perform his new project "Migration" on Istanbul's music stage. Sanchez's new project is the first album of a band composed of Chick Corea and John Patituci.

Scofield Mehldau Guiliana
Jazz pianist Brad Mehldau, drummer Mark Guiliana who collaborated with Dhafer Youssef and Gretchen Parlato and was featured in David Bowie's last album "Blackstar" and John Scofield who is one of the most inspirational jazz guitarists of all times join forces to offer one of the most exciting live jazz performances to Istanbulites.

Europe Jazz Club Nights at Salon
Volkan Topakoğlu feat. Matthias Konrad
Jazz contrabass, bass guitarist and composer Volkan Topakoğlu kicked off his professional music career by playing the guitar but then moved on to piano and cello. On the other hand, trombone player Matthias Konrad who made an international name from himself from the Netherlands collaborated with important musicians and ensembles such as Glenn Miller Orchestra and Holland Big Band. These two internationally recognized musicians will share the stage as a part of the festival.

Ercüment Orkut 'Low Profile' feat. Marius Neset
Ercüment Orkut who launched his jazz education with Aydın Esen won various awards for his compositions and his performances. Marius Neset who will perform on the same stage with Orkut is considered among one of the most accomplished saxophonist and composers of the North. Neset who worked with well-renowned British pianist Django Bates for years is resembled to legendary Norwegian jazz saxophonist Jan Garbarek.

Big Beats Big Times / Full Moon Theory Live
Big Beats Big Times is known as an impromptu concert series featuring drummers from all over the globe which is initiated by Berke Can Özcan. The band recently released their debut studio album "Full Moon Theory" comes together on the stage for the first time to share their new songs with the audience. Big Beats Big Times is composed of Erland Dahlen on drums and percussion, Gunnar Halle on trumpet, Berke Can Özcan on drums, Burak Irmak on Rhodes, Feryin Kaya on bass and guitar and Can Güngör on percussion.

Çağıl Kaya Band feat. Airelle Besson
Çağıl Kaya who reinforced her talent for music by receiving education on musicology gives place to theatrical elements and striking impromptu vocal changes. Her repertoire features songs from Turkish bands Duman and Mor ve Ötesi and musicians such as Sevinç Tevs ağart from her own compositions. As a part of her performance at Istanbul Jazz Festival, Kaya will share the stage with French musician Airelle Besson. The winner of Django Reinhardt Award for "The Best French Jazz Musician of the Year" has collaborated with musicians such as Hugh Coltman, Riccardo Del Fra and Metronomy so far.

Bulut Gülen Quintet feat. Yuri Honing
Bulut Gülen shared the same stage with Dianne Reeves and Kurt Elling as a part of the Istanbul Jazz Festival with Istanbul Superband under the baton of conductor Aycan Teztel. Gülen who collaborated with important musicians such as McCoy, Tyner Benny Golson and Steve Smith with Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra will accompanied by Dutch saxophonist Yuri Honing on July 20 at Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts' initiative salon. Considered as one of the prominent jazz musicians, Honing Pat Metheny previously shared the stage with Charlie Haden, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ibrahim Malooff, Craig Taborn and Paul Bley and won Boy Edgar Prize which is considered one of the most prestigious awards in jazz music.

Eylem Pelit Band
Eylem Pelit performed in various festivals including Istanbul Jazz Festival, Akbank Jazz Festival and Stuttgart Jazz Festival. Pelit who collaborated with artists such as Sarp Maden, Ayhan Sicimoğlu, Okan Ersan and Şenay Lambaoğlu in their albums is considered among one of the most talented bass guitarists and arrangers of Turkish jazz. Having released her album "Yedi Uyuyanlar" (Seven Sleepers) in 2015, Pelit will offer a live performance as a part of the Istanbul Jazz Festival.
