The Turkish Navy has evacuated 55 Turkish citizens from Yemen's port city of Aden, the Foreign Ministry announced in a statement Friday.
The statement said: "The Turkish Navy vessel, TCG Büyükada Frigate, has completed the evacuation of 55 citizens from the Yemeni city of Aden. Our citizens will first land in Djibouti from where they will be transported to Turkey on Turkish Airlines."
The Saudi-led military operation in Yemen, dubbed Operation Decisive Storm, has launched numerous airstrikes since late Wednesday, which made the situation increasingly dangerous for Turkish residents in the volatile country.
"After the launch of the Saudi-led coalition's military operation in Yemen, we have been conducting a rigorous operation to evacuate our citizens from the country," the ministry added.
Riyadh said that the strikes were in response to calls by Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi for military intervention to "save the people from Houthi militias."
Yemen has most recently been in turmoil since last September, when Shiite rebels overran the capital Sanaa, from which they reportedly sought to extend their influence to other parts of the country.
Some Gulf countries accuse Iran of supporting the Houthi-led insurgency that forced Hadi to flee the country.
