Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu on Monday said that the Turkish military has struck PKK-affiliated PYD across the border in northern Syria twice.
Speaking in a live interview with A Haber channel, Davutoğlu said Turkey had previously warned members of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) not to cross to the west of the Euphrates River and if they did, Turkey would interfere.
"We struck twice," the Prime Minister said, without giving further information.
Turkey regards the PYD as the Syrian offshoot of the PKK, which has carried out terrorist activities in the country since 1984.
Ankara has warned Syrian Kurds to stay away from any attempts to create a "de facto situation" in Syria.
Psident Recep Tayyip Erdoğan vowed to take necessary steps on Turkey's southeastern borders against the threat posed by PYD and criticized PYD's declaration of a canton in Tal Abyad.
"ISIS takes over Tal Abyad, then leaves the city. After that, PYD takes control of the town. This is a collective game of war. 95 percent of Tal Abyad is composed of Arabs and Turkmens, while only the 5 percent of the town's total population is Kurds. PKK-affiliated PYD declared Tal Abyad as one of its so-called 'cantons.' Turkey will do whatever it takes to overcome this threat," he said.
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has warned the PYD to not use the weapons reportedly given by the U.S. in Turkey. Davutoğlu has said the PYD would be hit like the PKK terrorist group if these weapons ever entered Turkey.
Millions of Syrian refugees have fled their country since war broke out more than four years ago. The UN said in June that the number of forcibly displaced people worldwide has "for the first time in the post-World War II era, exceeded 50 million people".
