The Turkish delegation in Paris to attend the climate summit, held a series of bilateral meetings with counterparts from across the world yesterday, with most countries saying that they had warned Russian President Vladimir Putin over his actions to his face. Several Western delegations told Turkish officials that their countries were in total support with Turkey's stance and were willing to act in tandem. According to diplomatic sources, Putin was told that his policy of escalating regional tension was wrong. Western officials also said that Turkey's actions against a fighter jet that violated its airspace were legitimate. Many Western delegations voiced their opinion that the Russian reaction against the downing of its plane was excessive and only pointed to Moscow's desire to capitalize on it to expand its political influence.
