The National Security Council (MGK) will meet on Friday to address the Russian jet crisis, which emerged after Turkey downing of Russian fighter jet. DAESH attacks on the Bashiqa camp near Mosul where Turkish troops are stationed and developments on military operations that took place in five provinces in Turkey against terrorist organizations will also be discussed. The meeting will be chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, with Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, Chief of Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar, deputy prime ministers, the justice minister, national defense minister, interior minister and the foreign minister in attendance.
As the crises with Russia continues and the Russian government imposing sanctions on Turkey further increasing tensions, the MGK meeting's agenda will prioritize the issue and address Russia's future existence and roles in Syria and the Eastern Mediterranean as well as possible problems that may emerge. Economic and military precautions for all scenarios are also expected to be addressed at the meeting.
The statement that was made by the Iraqi government about DAESH attacks on the Bashiqa camp will be discussed. On Dec. 4, 150 Turkish soldiers equipped with weapons as well as tanks arrived on the outskirts of the DAESH-held city of Mosul to train forces. Baghdad demanded the withdrawal of the Turkish soldiers from Iraq. However, Turkey said the 150 soldiers and up to 25 tanks are stationed at Bashiqa to protect servicemen training Iraqi officers to fight against DAESH. Ankara said that there is pressure from Iran on Iraq to make this demand.
The PKK will also be another topic of the MGK meeting. Turkey's extensive combat operations, which the government called "peace and democracy" operations, in the southeastern provinces of Cizre, Nusaybin, Silopi, Sur and Dargecit against the PKK, will be discussed.
