A total of 168 terrorists from PKK have been killed in a military operation in the eastern part of Turkey since Dec. 15, military sources said Wednesday.
The operation has been continuing in the southeastern provinces of Diyarbakır, Şırnak and Mardin, with curfews declared to fight the terrorists nested in citizens' homes.
As part of the operation, 113 terrorists were killed in the Cizre district and nine were killed in the Silopi district of Şırnak. In Diyarbakır's Sur district, 23 terrorists were killed.
In Mardin province, 16 terrorists were killed in the district of Dargeçit and three in the Nusaybin district. In the eastern province of Bitlis, the security forces killed four terrorists.
In addition, one terrorist was captured alive in the operation launched in Cizre district.
A curfew was imposed on Cizre and Silopi last Monday. Many citizens left the district before the curfew, which became the scene of clashes between security forces and PKK members.
The PKK - considered a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU - resumed its armed campaign in late July. Since then, more than 200 members of the security forces have been martyred and over 1,700 PKK terrorists killed.
