As the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) prepares for its historical extraordinary congress on May 21, the party's current Central Executive Board (MYK) members are set to meet Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım for the last time at Çankaya Palace today.
While the MYK is, by tradition, always held at the party headquarters, tomorrow's meeting will mark a first, as it will be held at the Çankaya Palace. The meeting will be followed by a gathering attended by the prime minister, his wife Semiha Yıldırım and the MYK members' spouses.With President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan rejoining the AK Party, it looks to gain momentum through its rejuvenated administration. According to sources close to the party, the AK Party's top decision-making bodies, the Central Executive Board (MYK) and Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK), are likely to bring changes to the congress this Sunday in Ankara.
Ahead of the change, the Turkish prime minister and his wife will hold a dinner for MYK members and their spouses, in a show if gratitude for their services and efforts throughout their term.
In addition to the changes, sources close to the party indicated that a greater participation of female politicians and rising importance of local party administrations were expected as far as the AK Party, in the new era after President Erdoğan's return.
