President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's support has reached 56 percent, which is above the current estimated vote share for his ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party), a recent survey has found.
According to a public survey conducted by the AK Party, the AK Party is retaining its share of the vote it received in the Nov. 1 elections, at around 49 percent to 50 percent. According to the survey, support for Erdoğan is 6 to 7 points above the party's votes.
Survey respondents said that terrorism, the economy and foreign policy are the most important issues for them. Regarding foreign policy in particular, the survey found that public perception decreased quite a bit compared to previous surveys.
In terms of the recent changes in the administrations of six cities, including Istanbul and Ankara, the survey found that 50 percent of respondents support the changes, with AK Party voters' support above the general average.
In the 15 years it has been in power, the AK Party has seen a number of changes to its ruling cadre before and after the multiple elections it has won, but it is the first time that a number of mayors have offered their resignations in such a short period of time.
In a landmark speech last summer, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that there was "mnetal fatigue" within the AK Party and took up the task of rejuvenating it.
As far as vote shares are concerned, according to the survey, the emergence of the İYİ Party (Good Party), which was recently founded by former Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) dissident Meral Akşener, affected only the Republican People's Party (CHP) and MHP with no vote transfers from the AK Party. Getting 2 percent from the CHP's, 2.5 percent from the MHP, and 1 percent from other parties' vote shares, the survey estimated the İYİ Party's vote share to be around 5.5 percent.
