Adventurer Gürkan Genç, who is planning to visit 10 African countries, set off on his biking tour from Addis Ababa. He said he chosen Ethiopia as the starting point for its mountains and natural beauty. Underscoring that biking is an environmentally friendly sport, Genç tries to learn more cultures and strengthen cultural relations on his adventures. Already having traversed six deserts, he aims to break a record by climbing to highest mountains on different continents and travel to all of the world's deserts. His Ethiopia tour will take one month. There, he will visit Bale Mountain in the southeastern part of the country and will bike 1,500 kilometers to reach the border of Ethiopia and Kenya. Genç will also climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and travel to Madagascar, Mozambique, Zambia and South Africa. So far, he has traveled 37,000 kilometers and visited 31 countries. The adventurous cyclist wants to bike 120,000 kilometers and travel to 90 countries by 2020. Having launched his world tour on Sept. 9, 2012, Genç also met Addis Ababa Bicycle Federation President Tesfaye Mekonned.
