Two women with same first and last name gave birth to babies with a five-minute interval at the same hospital in the southeastern Turkish province of Şırnak, frustrating the doctor who delivered both infants.
Emine Susin, 32, was giving birth to her fifth child while another Emine Susin, 33, a mother of nine, was hospitalized when her labor pains kicked in around the same time. Hospital staff scrambled to prevent a mix-up in their files as both women also suffered from the same hypertension condition prior to birth and a number of similar anomalies.
Finally, Doctor Ayşegül Deregözü delivered both babies with a C-section in two successful surgeries. Upon learning about the coincidence, two mothers met and struck up a conversation about their newborn, a girl and a boy. Dr. İlhami Yılmaz, a doctor who participated in the surgeries, said they were relieved that there wouldn't be a switch of babies scenario due to different genders of babies.
The 32-year-old mother said she "made a wish" as this was once in a lifetime coincidence for her. The 33-year-old mother underlined neither she nor her husband were related to the other mother.
