Figures announced by Germany's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) yesterday show that the number of Turks who took German citizenship last year was less than in 2013. Though Turkish immigrants had the highest rate of citizenship at 22,463, it was still 5,500 short of the 2013 figures. Destatis figures revealed that the overall citizenship rate was 3.5 percent lower in 2014 compared to the previous year. Poles follow Turks with the second highest rate of citizenship. Germany is home to more than 1.5 million Turks, according to the most recent statistics.
