The Bus Drivers' Chamber in Turkey's southern province of Antalya held a drug test for bus and minibus drivers working in the city, in which 40 drivers were reportedly found to be using drugs while one male driver has a 'bun in the oven.'
A local newspaper reported that one driver is suspected to give somebody else's urine sample to the private medical center that the test was carried out. Another possibility is a mixture of samples in the medical center; however, this possibility is highly unlikely as traces of drug usage were found in 40 urine and blood samples.
An official stated that drivers with positive urine samples will be barred from driving.
Ali Tüzün, chairman of the chamber, spoke to Hürriyet daily and stated that eight to ten drivers were found to be using the synthetic drug "bonzai" known for its high fatality rate. Tüzün said that their names will not be disclosed but they were discharged.
Tüzün said that 1,100 drivers and bus owners will be subject to drug and psychological scanning and the results will be made public.
