Muslim locals formed human shield to protect tourists in Tunisian resort attack that left 38 dead

British survivors praise Tunisians for their bravery after a group of locals prevented more deaths at the hands of gunman Seifeddine Rezgui who rampaged through a beach resort in Sousse killing 38 people, mostly foreign tourists.Pictures from the incident that left more than 30 tourists dead had emerged with Muslim locals seemingly standing in the background and not taking any type of action to prevent the disaster had sparked tensions on social media. However, witnesses are coming forth days after the attack and a new picture is being painted. When taking a closer look at the images it was clear, the locals acted together forming a human shield in an attempt to save the lives of dozens of tourists. A witness speaking to Reuters said, "I was on the beach when he started shooting. We got everyone back towards the hotel, but he followed us. He targeted the foreigners but not the Tunisians. When he saw a Tunisian he shouted out 'Get out of the way' and shot at foreigners." Another witness who spoke to the Independent, John Yeoman, was on vacation with his wife at a neighboring resort when the shooting began. He tweeted, "Those in the background formed a human shield to protect another hotel they are not watching they saved many lives."After Yeoman and his wife returned home to the United Kingdom, similar stories began to emerge as Mrs. Yeoman met another couple that shared stories of identical scenes of bravery by the locals. The Yeoman family and other tourists have said that the locals were shouting at the gunmen to the effect of 'you'll have to get past us and we're Muslim'.
