The Khartoum office of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has provided food aid to some 1,300 families from South Sudan.

Citizens of South Sudan have been fleeing to neighboring Sudan as a result of the growing famine and drought in their country.

Numerous refugee camps have been established near Sudan's border to South Sudan, as each month around 5,000 people take shelter in the country.

TIKA was one of the first organizations to visit refugee camps in the city of Kosti in Sudan's White Nile state and to provide much needed humanitarian aid.

Celalettin Güngenci, coordinator of TIKA's Khartoum office, said that all necessary research was carried out to identify the most consumed food products before the aid boxes were prepared.

Güngenci also stated that TIKA's help had reached some 1,300 families, adding that the agency's aid would not be limited with these numbers.

TIKA is expected to continue to provide further aid to South Sudanese people.

Established in 1992, Turkey's government-run TIKA aid agency is mandated with implementing Turkey's developmental cooperation policies overseas.
