Turkish woman attacked by K-9 police dog at JFK airport will sue officers

A woman who was attacked by a K-9 police dog at the John F. Kennedy International (JFK) Airport in August, will travel to the U.S. to sue the responsible officers next week.

Abrou Peçe, a 44-year-old woman with Turkish and Iranian roots, was walking through a boarding bridge when an unmuzzled K-9 police dog ran through the crowd and bit her right leg.

"The police officers told me that everything is okay, and wanted to send me back to Turkey [without being treated]," Peçe said, describing the aftermath of the incident which happened in front of her seven-year-old daughter's eyes on August 14.

Her daughter ran towards the plane in fear and panic, as she was laying on the ground covered in blood, she said.

The crew of the Turkish Airlines flight TK4 bound from New York to Istanbul helped Peçe when the incident happened, she said.

"If it wasn't for the Turkish Airlines personnel who rushed to help, the officers would have left me there alone, covered in blood," Peçe said.

Peçe was kept waiting for one hour and was told by the police officers that there are no medical teams at the airport, but was taken to a hospital after insisting for treatment.

"The officers were talking among themselves and were saying that I threw something at the dog to provoke it. I think they thought that I don't speak English, because when I answered them, they stopped speaking," she said.

Peçe says she will fly to the U.S. next week to sue the responsible officers.
